Let's release rage proactively

🔥 Do you want to join me? Let’s share ways to channel our rage.
.
Supporting us to tune into our anger & connect with our bodies in order to RELEASE THE RAGE.
.
In this pandemic, we’re contending with many triggers for anger as we parent in isolation with all its endless demands and noise.
.
Yet ‘Good’ mums aren’t allowed to feel anger – so we shove it down. Until it bubbles over and fury erupts. It’s seductive power is an illusion: suppressing anger or lashing out only keeps it going. So we feel worse not better.
.
So what to do? We need to CHANNEL our rage PROACTIVELY – as Dr Pooja Lakshmin highlighted in her NY Times Parenting piece.
.
And so to this pic – me swimming last Summer. Why? Well, because I believe the answer to channelling anger constructively lies in the body. And sea swimming allows me to connect completely with my body.
.
Because of society’s body ideals, we’ve learnt to value our bodies for what they LOOK like – not for the wondrous things they can DO.
.
So as modern women, we’re more disconnected from our bodies than ever.
.
Without knowledge & wisdom of our bodies, which tell so much of our anger & suffering as well as our joy & pleasure – we can’t meaningfully tune into those feelings. So angry feelings become ‘stuck’ – and we get caught up in cycles of simmering rage. Cut off from the hurt child in us, stranded from finding ways to connect with & process our wounds.
.
Below are some ideas for releasing rage proactively:
.
⚡️running/ dancing/ movement

⚡️meditation (even 10 mins can help), breathwork

⚡️journaling/ scrawling anger onto paper

⚡️mindfully listening to music

⚡️communicating your needs to partner/ boss

⚡️social action eg Anna Whitehouse’s (@motherpukka) campaign supporting parents.
.
